Sensei Donna Brock/Sensei Michael Brock
Proud member of the Shotokan Karate Association
I started studying Martial Arts in 1999 with my son Michael at our local YMCA in Clarksburg, West Virginia at the Clarksburg Karate Academy, studying Chidokwan with Sensei Mike Boyle. My son was then 7 years old and like any little boy at that time wanted to learn Karate. So, after some weeks of sitting on the sidelines watching and learning along with him so that I could assist in his training at home, I decided to take this journey with him. Sensei Boyles teachings of Kata and weapons left a large impression on us and we thank him for his dedication to the art.
We also studied in Clarksburg, WV with Sensei Brian Greynolds. Sensei Greynolds was a large influence for our love of kumite. We thank him for his time and patience.
Our family moved to the Eastern Shore, Maryland in June of 2003. As before we went to our local YMCA and found the Talbot Shotokan Karate Club instructed by Sensei Jack Gehring. The style was very similar to our previous club so we joined and on March 28, 2006 Michael and I receive our Shodan Certificates.
We would also like to thank Sensei Jack Gehring for continuing to guide us on our path through Karate.
He has been a great teacher, mentor and friend. We believe that we are much better Karateka and people for knowing and studying with these instructors.
I have competed in many tournaments throughout the years. Instructed a Womens Self Defense Class. I also assist in teaching with Sensei Gehring. I am a former banker and decided when Michael was born to stay home and take care of him myself. I also have a daughter Anna, 10, who studies with us in our dojo.
My wish is for one day to be the one who presents her with her Shodan Certificate and black belt.
Michael and I opened the Preston Shotokan Dojo on October 3, 2007 in Preston, Maryland. We believe that it is our responsibility to pass on what we have learned.
I am blessed and proud to have a wonderful family and a dojo full of bright and talented students.
We would like to wish you all much success in your endevours whether they be in or out of the dojo.
Ous!
Sensei Donna Brock
To all of those who have assisted in getting us to where we are today, we Thank You.
Also, I would like to thank Michael for his dedication to me and the Preston Shotokan Dojo.
